The Garvan Research Foundation (GRF) is the fundraising and marketing arm of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and provides financial support to the Institutes’ medical research programs and strategic priorities. The Foundation also delivers Garvan’s public engagement and awareness activities.
This is an exciting time for the Garvan Research Foundation (GRF) team in 2024, as they are building on the success and momentum of recent years having expanded across all fundraising and marketing programs.  
The remarkable success of the Foundation’s activities is having a catalytic impact on the Institute’s ability to make scientific contributions on a global scale that will ultimately lead to earlier diagnosis, better treatments and prevention or cure of a range of diseases.

A genuine rare opportunity for an experienced Marketing Manager responsible for leading the marketing function to drive awareness of Garvan, its scientific excellence, increase understanding of what it does and increase philanthropic support for its research via broadening its base.

Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Communications and as a member of the leadership team (managing a team of 3 direct reports), the role will work closely with their Communications Manager, internal and external stakeholders and would suit an experienced marketing allrounder with initiative, strong leadership capabilities & brings good digital and project management skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leading, motivating, engaging and coaching a team of marketing professionals to support the strategic goals of the organisation.
  • In conjunction with the Head of Marketing, Communications, Exec Management Committee (and with Board approval), oversee development and implementation of marketing strategy 
  • Overall responsibility for production of Breakthrough magazine, annual report and articles, publications, video content, website, brochures and collateral for fundraising and social media content
  • Ownership of the design and delivery of integrated marketing campaigns and programs for both fundraising and overall brand awareness.
  • Ensure all content is on-brand, consistent and accurate, acting as brand custodian.
  • Create and maintain procedures and processes.
  • Encourage innovation, adding value to Foundation activities.

 

YOUR SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

  • Significant experience in marketing/communications with a few years of managing a team.
  • Experience creating compelling messages across multiple channels (e.g., print, digital, TV)
  • Excellent editorial skills with experience of writing marketing materials.
  • Leadership skills with managerial experience including recruiting, leading, and mentoring people
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Professional interpersonal skills with high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Proven capability to deal with confidential information.
  • Ability to independently plan and implement marketing campaigns.
  • Good knowledge of digital marketing across a broad range of digital channels
  • Effective communicator with internal and external stakeholders including executive members and donors.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work autonomously with initiative.
